Mataram (Antara NTB) - The government plans to utilize wind energy to generate electricity in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), a lawmaker said.
Dr.Kurtubi, a lawmaker from the Commission VII of the Parliament said the possibility of developing wind energy in NTB is being studied.
Kurtubi,a leading energy observer, said here on Friday the government is cooperating with the United States to study the potential of wind energy in NTB.
"We are cooperating with the United States . The United States is helping us in studying the wind speed , whether the speed is enough to generate power," he said.
The government has encouraged development of renewable energy including wind energy to generate electricity to reduce dependence on fossil energy.
Kurtubi said wind energy has been successfully used to generate power in Bantul and Yogyakarta.
Certainly winds energy could also be utilized to cope with shortage in its power supply in NTB especially Lombok, he added. (*)
