Jakarta (ANTARA) - After a successful Asian sojourn, the Indonesian badminton team is aiming for more good results in its European tour, starting with the All England Championship on March 14, 2023. Indonesia started this season with one title in the Malaysia Open Super 1000 and two titles in the Indonesia Masters Super 500. Unfortunately, the national team failed to bag any medals in the Indian Open Super 750.
Head of sports development at the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), Rionny Mainaky, said he was satisfied with the results, but lack of focus was still an issue. However, all the team members have been developing their games along the way, he said.
“At the beginning of this year, starting from Malaysia (Open), India (Open), and Indonesia (Masters), the progress was pretty good, even though in India, we didn't win any titles because maybe there was a lack of focus and concentration,” Mainaky said in a statement received here on Tuesday.
“But overall, I am satisfied with the results. We are going to make evaluation ahead of the European tour in March, starting with All England,” he added. Mainaky also gave credit to player Jonatan Christie for keeping his focus and giving his best performance to secure a gold in the men’s singles.

Indonesia won two titles in the BWF World Tour tournament Indonesia Masters 2023 in Jakarta, last week. Christie emerged as a champion on the home turf after defeating compatriot Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo with a score of 21-15, 21-13 in the men’s singles final.
Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin secured the second title for Indonesia after outplaying China’s He Ji Ting/Zhou Hao Dong in the men’s doubles final. Carnando/Marthin, who beat the second-seeded pair Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi of Japan in the semifinals, put pressure on their rivals from the beginning of the game and closed the match 21-17, 21-16 in a straight game win.
The European tour will kick off in Germany, but Indonesia skips the Super 300 tournament in Mulheim as it focuses its campaign to the All England Super 1000 on March 14-19. From Birmingham, Indonesia will continue the tour in the Swiss Open in Bassel (March 21-26), the Spain Masters in Madrid (March 28-April 2), and the Orleans Masters in France (April 4-9).
