Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Hadi Tjahjanto, asked law enforcement officials to be careful when investigating criminal cases related to the regional elections to avoid triggering a public outcry. He made the request in his keynote speech for the "Integrated Law Enforcement (Gakkumdu) Center Coordination Forum" in Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Thursday, which was read by Deputy III for legal and human rights coordination, Sugeng Purnomo.

At the event, which was streamed live on the YouTube channel of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Tjahjanto stressed that law enforcement officers must keep the situation conducive so that the potential for clashes among people can be prevented.

To this end, he asked officials to carry out their duties professionally and remain neutral without supporting the political interests of certain parties participating in the elections.

The minister also urged law enforcement officials and the General Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) to align their perceptions regarding criminal offense norms and patterns of handling crime cases related to regional elections.

"Communication and coordination are important keys to prevent differences in the interpretation of offenses and the handling of criminal acts, which can confuse people who are seeking justice," he explained.
