Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono is keen to push plantation commodities such as coffee, rubber, cloves, cocoa, and nutmeg so they can lead in global trade, in addition to palm oil.According to him, Indonesia is in a leading position in terms of seedling technology for plantation crops.
"We (the government) are ready, the private sector is also ready (to expand plantations)," he affirmed in Tangerang, Banten, on Thursday.
Promoting Indonesian plantation commodities in the global market would benefit the people of the country, especially farmers, he explained.
"This is an advantage in how we prosper our people, provide benefits to the private sector, and increase the country's foreign exchange," he said.

In addition, essential oils also have the potential to be a superior export commodity, he pointed out. The plantation sector is one of the major contributors to Indonesia's gross domestic product (GDP), in addition to the mineral and gas sector.
"There are many ways we carry out trade, as conveyed by President Joko Widodo, that we try as much as possible to provide added value from all the commodities we export," Sudaryono said.
