Jakarta (ANTARA) - The 2019–2025 Bali Work Plan has so far helped reduce the threat of terrorism and terror attacks in the ASEAN region, according to the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT).In an official statement released here on Friday, BNPT's Deputy for International Cooperation Andhika Chrisnayudhanto explained that the Bali Work Plan was devised to tackle violent radicalism and extremism in the ASEAN region.

It has four pillars, namely focus on prevention, counter-radicalization and de-radicalization, law enforcement, and regional cooperation and partnerships.

"A total of 63 actions in the four main pillars have been implemented by ASEAN sectoral bodies, dialogue and development partners, and other relevant international organizations," Chrisnayudhanto said.

Although terror threats have receded, he highlighted several important issues that have emerged in the region, such as radicalization through online media, increasing women's involvement in terror acts, and radicalization among young people.

For this reason, he urged all parties to strengthen collaboration and plan for the right strategies in implementing the Bali Work Plan.

"Terrorism threats are real. Terror groups continue to find ways to spread their agenda and expand their networks, so it is very important for us to work together and formulate strategies," he said.

The Bali Work Plan's implementation will focus on a number of priority areas: conflict prevention and dialogue, human rights, youth and women's empowerment, gender equality, education, and strategic communication in cyberspace, he added.

Activities organized under the plan include the recently held 4th Bali Work Plan Multi-Sectoral Task Force (MTF) Meeting and the 4th ASEAN Partners Meeting for the Implementation of the Bali Work Plan 2019–2025, held in Bali on September 26, 2024.
