Jakarta (ANTARA) - Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) supports the acceleration of three quick-win programs in the health sector by the new government.

The three programs comprise health screening, building hospitals in regions, and tuberculosis handling.

DPR endorses expediting quick-win

"We fully support the quick-win program, and it must be implemented optimally," member of Commission IX of DPR RI, Irma Suryani, stated during a work meeting with Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin in Jakarta on Thursday.

However, Suryani reminded the Health Ministry to continually prioritize other health programs in addition to the quick-win program.

"The Health Ministry should not neglect other national priority health programs that have been agreed upon in 2025," she emphasized.

One of the national priority health programs is handling non-communicable and infectious diseases, such as dengue fever.

Earlier, Sadikin said that under President Prabowo Subianto's leadership, his side would accelerate the implementation of the quick-win program.

Sadikin said his side is prioritizing maintaining community health and not merely treating the ill.

Hence, he emphasized that promotive and preventive measures, such as routine screening, are more important than curative efforts.

"We have to manage health centers and integrated health posts and not just managing hospitals. All health workers, midwives, nurses, and general practitioners in health centers must receive more attention," the minister remarked.

For the second quick-win program, Sadikin elaborated on the need to develop hospital infrastructure, especially in remote, outermost, and island areas, to equalize access to health services across the country.

To this end, his side has identified 40 regions where hospital construction must be accelerated.

"For the third program, tuberculosis should be handled quickly. This is an infectious disease, with the highest number of deaths in the world, far above COVID-19. One billion people have died since 100 years ago due to this disease which still exists in Indonesia," he stated.

He is targeting a complete tuberculosis vaccine by the end of 2028 which can be provided to the public in 2029.
