Mataram (ANTARA) - The work to construct the Lombok International Airport (BIL)-Mandalika bypass road section in West Nusa Tenggara, measuring 17.3 kilometers in length, is 90-percent complete and projected to be ready by September-end this year.

The road is being constructed for holding the World Superbike (WSBK) event on November 12-14, 2021, at the Mandalika Circuit.

"We have checked and observed that the progress is quite good. The average is above 90 percent. Our partners said this can be completed by the end of September," Head of the West Nusa Tenggara Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Office H. Ridwan Syah noted in a written statement received here Friday.

Syah, in the company of several officials from the West Nusa Tenggara PUPR office including Reiza Setiawan from the National Road Construction Agency ( (BPJN), and the operational managers of five partner companies, reviewed the progress achieved in the construction of the BIL-Mandalika bypass road in Central Lombok.

He later noted that construction of the BIL-Mandalika bypass road, connecting Lombok's Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport and the Lombok Mandalika National Tourism Strategic Area (KSPN) in Central Lombok, aims to boost the economy for the benefit of communities in the region and to facilitate access for tourists keen on traveling to the Mandalika area.

According to Syah, construction of the 17.3-km-long bypass will improve the connecting road at the Super Priority Tourism Destination (DPSP) Mandalika-Lombok while supporting connectivity of the MotoGP circuit also being built in the Mandalika area. President Joko Widodo is expected to inaugurate the road in October.

"So far, we have taken the old road through Sengkol, and it takes 40 minutes to an hour to get to the Mandalika area. However, with the BIL-Mandalika bypass road, it will be faster, only taking about 15 to 20 minutes to reach the Mandalika circuit," he noted.

The layout of the BIL-Mandalika bypass road section is appropriate, with a road width of 50 meters, and four lanes equipped with sidewalks and medians. At some points, bridges, overpasses, and pedestrian bridges are also available to facilitate neighborhoods in the vicinity.

Syah's side is optimistic that the BIL-Mandalika bypass road infrastructure would be ready for holding the World Superbike (WSBK) due to be held at the Mandalika Circuit on November 12-14, 2021.

Meanwhile, Head of NTB BPJN, Reiza Setiawan, explained that the BIL - Mandalika bypass road was being constructed in three working phases: Phase one along 4.3 km (STA 0+00-STA 4+30) with contractor PT Nindya Karya-Bumi Agung.

Phase two is 9.70 km long (STA 4+30-STA 14+00) for which the contractor is PT Adhi Karya - PT Metro Lestari Utama (KSO), while Phase three is 3.38 km (STA 14+00-STA 17+36). ), with PT Yasa Patria Perkasa as the contractor.

"The overall work to construct these phases has reached more than 90-percent completion. This September, it can already be completed," Setiawan stated.

He noted that funds to construct the BIL - Mandalika bypass were sourced from the 2020-2021 State Budget, with a total value of around Rp814 billion.

"To ensure smooth flow of traffic, the BIL-Mandalika bypass is also equipped with overpasses at 11 locations, two bridges, and three pedestrian bridges," he added.
