Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Home Affairs Ministry elaborated on the crucial role of the Stunting Reduction Acceleration Team (TPPS) at the sub-district level in handling stunting cases.

"The role of TPPS in sub-districts is important to provide data on socio-cultural, geography, programs, or sectors that have been running, basic social service, and enabling conditions (challenges) for villages," the ministry's expert, Arifin Effendy Hutagalung, noted in a statement received here on Wednesday.

At the 2024 stunting mini-workshop held online on Tuesday (February 6), Hutagalung stated that the sub-district-level TPPS is tasked with assisting villages in compiling the list of stunting prevention program proposals resulting from village deliberations. The TPPS has a duty to support the discussions on stunting prevention programs that can be implemented sustainably.

"TPPS is tasked with coordinating villages in building a joint commitment with the relevant regional apparatus organizations (OPDs) to prepare regulations and policies on the convergence of programs and activities," he stated.

In addition, TPPS plays an important role in coordinating villages related to cadre development and with OPDs in order to strengthen data management.

"Meanwhile, the sub-district (officials) coordinate with the related OPDs (especially the health office) in ensuring human resource capacity," he remarked.

He noted that the sub-districts and local health offices need to ensure there are sufficient number of human resources for measuring the toddlers' growth or for anthropometric measurements.

"As well as coordinating the results of monitoring and evaluation of programs to accelerate stunting reduction at the village level," he remarked.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Village, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration encouraged the implementation of Presidential Regulation No. 72 of 2021 concerning the Acceleration of Stunting Reduction. The regulation mandates the listing of villages that have effectively reduced stunting prevalence.
