Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan advised President-elect Prabowo Subianto against bringing in toxic or problematic people into his cabinet.
"To the President-elect, I say 'Don't bring toxic people into your government, as it will be very detrimental to us'," Luhut stated at the "Jakarta Future Forum: Blue Horizons, Green Growth" event in Jakarta on Friday.
Luhut said that he conveyed this message as one of the lessons he had learned after working in President Joko Widodo's cabinet for a decade. According to Luhut, one of the issues in the government is regulations that are contrary to national interests.
"I fixed a lot of those problems," he said, adding that he believes digitalization can help overcome regulatory problems and increase efficiency and transparency in the government.
Hence, he encouraged the digitalization and integration of the Indonesian government system.
"I said to the President (Widodo), 'Sir, if you do not dare to replace people who disagree with this (digitalization of an integrated government system), we will not progress. Hence, we have to replace those who disagree with this idea,'" he remarked.
He also advised Prabowo to be more selective in choosing people for his cabinet. Luhut said he believes that Indonesia will improve in the future and is expected to be the fourth-largest economy in the world by 2045.
