Jakarta (ANTARA) - Communication and Informatics Minister Budi Arie Setiadi explored potential cooperation in the digital sector with the United Kingdom while receiving a visit by British Minister for the Cabinet Office John Glen.
Minister Setiadi expressed his enthusiasm to Glen to engage in discussions on potential cooperation in the digital sector with the UK Government.
"Through this meeting, we explored our path towards potential cooperation in the future," he noted in a press statement received here on Wednesday.
Setiadi expressed hope that the meeting facilitated a fruitful exchange of views and would encourage greater understanding as well as pave the way for potential collaboration between both nations.
He said that digital technology is one of the fundamental aspects boosting growth across development sectors. Citing World Bank data in 2022, Minister Setiadi said that the digital sector contributes 15 percent to the global gross domestic product (GDP).
Meanwhile, Indonesia's national economic growth is estimated to reach 6.2 percent by 2045.
"Digital transformation is expected to contribute to 20.7 percent of Indonesia's GDP," he remarked.
He stated that the use of new technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), provides breakthroughs and transformations in various sectors. He said that AI has become a global issue while noting that only 37 countries in the world have issued regulations to regulate AI.

The minister emphasized that the Indonesian government is responsive towards the development of AI technology by issuing Ministerial Circular Letter Number 9 of 2023 concerning AI Ethics.
"As a developing country, Indonesia is actively involved in many international forums that discuss about the technology, such as the AI Safety Summit held by the UK in Bletchley in 2023," he remarked.
