Jakarta (ANTARA) - Not a single open terror attack was recorded in Indonesia in the period from 2023 to June 2024, head of the National Counter Terrorism Agency (BNPT), Mohammed Rycko Amelza Dahniel, highlighted on Thursday.
"Throughout 2023 until now, June 2024, thank God, there has not been a single terrorist attack in Indonesia, or zero terrorist attacks," he said during a joint working meeting with Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) at the parliamentary complex, Jakarta.
This, he informed, has been thanks to massive and effective law enforcement by the anti-terror squad Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88) of the National Police (Polri), assisted by the Indonesian Military (TNI). He noted that Indonesia's terrorism prevention index has also improved in 2024.
"Indonesia's global terrorism index (GTI) is also getting better; from the 24th position in 2022 and 2023 to 31st in 2024," he said.
However, he reminded Indonesians not to become careless and complacent because the figures reflect only what is visible on the surface. Beneath the surface, there has been an increase in the consolidation of terror networks and an increase in radicalization among women, children, and teenagers.
"They are groups that are vulnerable to becoming targets of radicalization," he highlighted.
Deputy head of Commission III of the DPR, Habiburokhman, conveyed his appreciation to the BNPT for its active efforts, which resulted in zero open terrorist attacks from 2023 to June 2024.

"We express our highest appreciation to the BNPT and also to Polri, especially Densus," he said.
In late December 2023, the BNPT head had announced that 148 suspected terrorists were arrested in 2023.
According to him, most of the suspected terrorists had links with the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) and the Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) terror groups.
