Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI), the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) provincial government, and the Regional Police issued a joint declaration on the prevention of human trafficking (TPPO) on Wednesday.
“We are very proud of how we can all unite and work together to eradicate and address the threat of human trafficking,” secretary general of the Ministry of P2MI, Dwiyono, said in a statement released here on Wednesday.
He emphasized his ministry’s commitment to eradicating human trafficking. He also called the declaration a first step. He said that synergy with the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police will encourage more strategic efforts to eradicate human trafficking in the future.
He also emphasized President Prabowo Subianto’s instruction to the ministry to work more optimally to protect migrant workers.

“President Prabowo has instructed the Ministry of P2MI to protect migrant workers. We must ensure that our migrant workers are not subjected to violence, exploitation, or crimes against humanity,” Dwiyono said.
In the meantime, East Nusa Tenggara Governor Emanuel Meliades Laka Lena welcomed the initiative. He called the declaration crucial as a synergy effort between the central and regional governments to protect workers and prospective migrant workers in NTT.

“The problem of human trafficking against migrant workers is a humanitarian wound for us,” Meliades said in his remarks at the NTT Governor’s Official Residence Hall.
“Therefore, for us, this initiative is very important. We appreciate the Ministry of P2MI for this strategic step,” he added.
