Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has advised people to regularly check weather information before making their Eid al-Fitr homecoming and return trips in view of the rapidly changing weather conditions in Indonesia of late.

"The atmosphere condition in Indonesia is very dynamic and it is changing quickly," head of the BMKG’s Public Meteorology Center Fachri Radjab said here on Monday. He also appealed to prospective travelers not to make any trips, if the weather is bad. "If you consider that it is not possible to travel, postpone it (the trip) until the weather becomes normal, especially the travelers who use land and sea transport," he added.

BMKG’s deputy for meteorology, Guswanto, said that during the 2023 Eid al-Fitr exodus period, the agency will set up national and regional meteorological posts to monitor the latest weather conditions.

In addition, the agency will operate its 190 stations and 40 weather radars across Indonesia to provide more accurate weather information. The BMKG will also deploy its weather forecast officers round-the-clock during the holiday period.

The government has set the Eid al-Fitr joint leave for this year from April 19 to 25, as the Islamic holy day is estimated to fall on April 22. BMKG has made a website https://www.bmkg.go.id/cuaca/prakiraan-cuaca-posko-lebaran.bmkg for people traveling using land transportation where they can check weather information.

Furthermore, people traveling via sea can access the information on https://maritim.bmkg.go.id/, while travelers using air transportation can check https://siam.bmkg.go.id/siam/. According to BMKG head Dwikorita Karnawati, currently, Indonesia is transitioning from the rainy season to the dry season, thus there is still potential for extreme weather.

Hence, she appealed to the public to remain careful and increase their vigilance during the 2023 Eid al-Fitr exodus period. When the season shifts from the rainy season to the dry season, the wind direction varies greatly, causing the weather to suddenly change from hot to rainy or vice versa, Karnawati explained. "However, in general, the weather has been (forecast to be) mostly sunny in the morning, as the (rain) clouds will start to grow during the noon, and it will rain later in the afternoon or evening," she said.
