Magelang, C Java (ANTARA) - Some 26 million micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have so far adopted the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) as a payment method, according to Bank Indonesia (BI).

The central bank is targeting to raise the number of QRIS users to 45 million this year, BI's Deputy Governor, Doni Prumanto Joewono, said here. So far, the number of users has reached 36 million, and 26 million of them are MSMEs.

He made the statement after opening the "Rupiah Borobudur Playon: Run for Charity" event, which was organized as part of the 2023 Angkringan Digital event held on July 7–8, 2023, at the Borobudur Temple Complex, Magelang, Central Java.

According to him, BI has continued to make efforts to get more MSMEs to utilize QRIS as a campaign to promote non-cash payment systems, especially among MSMEs in the tourism sector. "Of course, we hope all (MSMEs) will use QRIS," he said.

The QRIS digital payment system is easy to use and provides convenience to people and MSME players because the money from the transactions goes straight to the account, he explained.

According to him, the total number of transactions using QRIS is targeted to reach 1 billion by the end of December 2023. BI is also cooperating with neighboring countries, namely Thailand and Malaysia, in QRIS utilization through QRIS Cross-Border to make it easier for tourists to carry out transactions.
