Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia suggested three approaches for dealing with child victims of terrorism at the 33rd Session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) that took place in Vienna, Austria, on Monday (May 13, 2024)."Indonesia has offered three approaches for dealing with children linked to terrorism," Head of the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) Commissioner General Rycko Amelza Dahniel informed in an official statement released by his office on Wednesda
According to him, the CCPCJ's involvement can help address the problems of child victims of terrorism, therefore Indonesia, as a member of the CCPCJ, has proposed three approaches.
The three approaches consist of preventing children from falling victim to terrorist groups' acts of violence, carrying out rehabilitation and reintegration of children associated with terrorist groups, and ensuring justice for children through a rights-based approach, he expounded.
Dahniel said that CCPCJ is a joint global effort to end all forms of violence against children, especially to tackle the issue of children associated with terrorist groups, which involves a serious violation of children's rights.
He emphasized that fulfilling children's rights is one of the main principles of the National Action Plan for Preventing and Combating Violent Extremism (RAN PE) in Indonesia.
In this regard, since 2021, the Indonesian government has collaborated with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to implement the STRIVE Juvenile project funded by the European Union, he informed.
