Jakarta (ANTARA) - A researcher from the Research Center for Education of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Iskandar Agung, has said that the education road map that is being prepared for Nusantara must prioritize local communities.He was speaking during an online discussion on the Nusantara education road map, which was followed online from Jakarta on Monday.
He suggested that education development in the new capital be directed toward the concept of 21st-century education, namely to build the best educational ecosystem in keeping with future talents, with interventions at the vocational level.
This would also include increasing the availability of tertiary education in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and management, and ensuring high-quality education, Agung said.
Realizing all this will require a higher contribution from teachers who can capably manage the learning process to create students who have mastery over science and technology and are competent in their field, he noted.
"Competent teachers should have character, have literacy in reading, writing, arithmetic, culture, digital technology, and have the ability to create and update," he emphasized.
Furthermore, he underlined that teachers in Nusantara must have critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and they must be communicative and capable of collaboration.

According to him, more pioneer teachers can be deployed to Nusantara and its surrounding areas to open up more opportunities for education of higher quality there.
"Quality education can open quality job opportunities as well. And when those job opportunities are opened, they should be given to the local communities around Nusantara for a more inclusive and equal development," the researcher added.
