Natuna, Riau Islands (ANTARA) - The Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry provided 10 scholarship quota for residents in Natuna, Riau Islands, for them to pursue higher education at the Tourism Polytechnics in the country.

Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno here on Saturday (August 3) said that the scholarship provision aims to create top human resources in the tourism sector.

He explained that Natuna in Riau Islands needs educational support in tourism, as the region has beautiful destinations, starting from beaches, coral reefs, and mountains. Quality human resources will support tourism development in Natuna, he stated.

"Therefore, we offer 10 scholarship quota for people in Natuna to pursue education at the Tourism Polytechnics that are located in Medan (North Sumatra), Bandung (West Java), Bali, and Lombok (East Nusa Tenggara)," he remarked.

He explained the scholarship management will be under the Natuna District Government. The scholarship will not only be given to high school graduates but also Natuna District Government's civil servants.

"It is for high school and vocational school graduates, as well as civil servants who want to increase their knowledge in managing tourism," Uno said.

Meanwhile, Natuna District Head, Wan Siswandi, conveyed his appreciation to minister about the scholarship. According to him, the scholarship can support tourism development in Natuna.

"We convey our thankfulness as this is very helpful," he said.

He explained that increasing human resource quality is part of the Natuna administration's priority. So far, there are 120 Natuna residents that have obtained scholarships to pursue education. "We cooperate with ministries and agencies for the scholarships," he said.

During his visit to Natuna, Minister Uno visited the Cemaga Tengah Tourism Village to carry out evaluation on the village that is listed in the 2024 Indonesian Village Tourism Award (ADWI).
