Penajam Paser Utara (ANTARA) - The first phase of the construction of the Vice Presidential Palace in Nusantara, Indonesia's new capital city in East Kalimantan, is set for completion in 2025, according to Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono.

The construction of the palace is being seen as a historical milestone in the journey of Nusantara's development, he said on Monday. He added that the project has been started to support the role of Nusantara as an efficient and sustainable center of government, in keeping with the nation's great vision.

Diana Kusumastuti, the ministry's Director General of Human Settlements, outlined two phases of the palace's construction. The first phase comprises the palace, offices, residences, and other supporting facilities, targeted for completion by August 2025.

"The first phase is very crucial because it is the foundation for the next phase of the construction of the Vice Presidential Palace," she said.

After the completion of the first phase, the ministry will conduct an auction to proceed to the second phase. The palace construction reiterates the government's commitment to make Nusantara city a center of government that does not only function as an administrative center, she said.

"It can also serve as an example of modern, smart, and sustainable city development," she added.

The Vice Presidential Palace in Nusantara is being built using the concept of "huma betang umai," which, according to the Dayak tribe language, means a big house that provides a shared space and has a protective role like a mother.

Combined with tropical, performative, and regenerative concepts, the palace is expected to become an environmentally friendly and carbon-efficient building, Kusumastuti said.
