Tangerang (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Environment and Forestry has made it compulsory for regional industrial zones to install Air Quality Monitoring Systems (AQMS) and Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS) for real-time monitoring of air conditions. The move is a part of wider efforts to lower air pollution.

Minister of Environment, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, said in Tangerang, Banten, on Monday that the directive has been issued in response to worsening air quality in the Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) area, which requires concrete measures to address.

“There are 166 industrial zones across Indonesia, with 48 located in Jabodetabek—including seven in Tangerang city. We have recorded approximately 6,800 smokestacks in Jabodetabek contributing to declining air quality,” he informed.
