Jakarta (ANTARA) - Housing and Settlements Minister Maruarar Sirait said Wednesday that closer cooperation between his ministry and the Ministry for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) will reinforce Indonesia’s national housing supply chain. The minister, better known as Ara, said MSMEs play a strategic role in affordable housing development, adding that the Housing Ministry is opening more space for small firms to participate in building public and subsidized homes.

“As long as MSMEs maintain good quality, we will integrate them into the Housing Ministry’s programs. We want them to be a vital part of the housing ecosystem,” Ara said in a statement.

He said stronger MSME competition will raise construction standards and ultimately benefit homebuyers nationwide.

“I see a highly competitive MSME housing ecosystem. With healthy competition and developers willing to give opportunities, the public gains the most,” he said.

Ara met MSME Minister Maman Abdurrahman to outline joint steps to expand MSME involvement in housing projects.

Maman said his ministry will begin mapping region-based MSMEs active in the housing sector, starting in Serang, Bogor and the Semarang–Kendal area, which have strong potential in building materials and construction services.

“We are building a housing-sector supply-chain ecosystem for MSMEs. With this mapping, local MSMEs can connect directly to developers’ needs,” Maman said.

The ministers also discussed using the KUR Perumahan scheme, an MSME credit facility now directed at strengthening small firms’ roles in national housing development, from supplying materials to providing construction services.

Ara said the scheme could widen MSME participation in affordable housing programmes and accelerate the growth of high-performing MSMEs in the sector.

The Housing Ministry is optimistic the partnership will help build a stronger housing ecosystem that delivers livable, affordable and quality homes for Indonesians.
