Penajam Paser Utara (ANTARA) - Indonesia Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) has confirmed that the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) in East Kalimantan will be ready to function as Indonesia’s Political Capital in 2028.“All development work at IKN is aimed at ensuring that IKN is ready to operate as the Political Capital in 2028,” said IKN Authority Secretary Bimo Adi Nursanthyasto when asked about the progress of IKN development in Sepaku, Penajam Paser Utara, on Thursday.
Nursanthyasto explained that the acceleration of IKN development has been agreed upon through the signing of six supervision work packages for the construction of strategic infrastructure in the legislative and judicial areas, which will serve as the center of the national government.
The signing of the supervision contracts has strengthened the foundation for Phase Two of IKN development (2025–2028), demonstrating the capital’s readiness to become the Political Capital by 2028, he added.

This process is in line with the mandate of Presidential Regulation No. 79 of 2025. The six supervision packages include oversight of road construction within the legislative complex area, with a contract period from December 2025 to October 2027, and supervision of road construction in supporting areas, with a contract period from December 2025 to December 2027.

They also include supervision of supporting infrastructure areas from December 2025 to December 2027; supervision of Embung (reservoir) 1B construction from December 2025 to November 2027; supervision of Embung 1C construction from December 2025 to November 2027; as well as supervision of retention pond construction with a contract period from December 2025 to November 2027.
To date, 26 out of 28 work packages for Phase Two of IKN development have been signed, comprising 14 physical construction packages and 12 construction management and supervision packages.
