Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin affirmed that the judges' integrity guards the justice system, thereby proffering a sense of security and order in the country.

"The highness demanded of judges is a natural thing because the guarantee of justice is in the hands of the judge. A judge's integrity guards the justice (system) that will result in a sense of security and order in society," VP Amin remarked here on Tuesday.

At the "Submission of the 2023 Annual Report of the Judicial Commission (KY)" event, as monitored online, Amin quoted a statement from a Greek philosopher, Socrates, about judges.

"There are four things that the judge must have, namely listening politely, answering wisely, considering consciously, and deciding impartially," he said while quoting Socrates' statement.

The vice president remarked that from ancient times until now, the noble definition pinned on judges has never changed.

"In Indonesian, judges are defined as people who are smart, virtuous, and wise," he remarked.

In addition, he reminded that the judges' fundamental morals and principles are stated in the holy scripture.

The VP cited the Qur'an Surat Sad verse 26 that reads: "We have surely made you an authority in the land, so judge between people with truth. And do not follow your desires or they will lead you astray from Allah’s Way."

Speaking about the Bible, Amin said, it also states that judges are God-fearing and righteous people who abstain from temptation.

He also affirmed that all humans are flawed in one way or the other, as they are weak creatures. Hence, he invited all those present at the event to continue to seek help and guidance from God Almighty in carrying out duties and mandates in the field of justice.
