Jakarta (ANTARA) - Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman emphasized the importance of support from the National Police (Polri) in achieving self-sufficiency in corn production through farming intensification. In a statement issued on Sunday, he mentioned that he had discussed the matter during a recent meeting with Polri Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

"We focused on our efforts to achieve national corn self-sufficiency," Sulaiman stated regarding the topics discussed with the police chief.

The minister explained that farming intensification through a corn planting program aims to optimize up to 1.7 million hectares of plantation areas and dry land nationwide. The program, which will involve police officers across the country, is expected to increase current corn stocks by 25 percent, equivalent to 4 million tonnes of corn.
