Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono has ensured that live cattle stocks and prices at the producer level remain stable ahead of the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holidays.Speaking at the working meeting of the Indonesian Cattle Breeders and Fatteners Association (APPSI) in Bogor, West Java, on Saturday, Sudaryono emphasized that cattle prices at the farm gate are currently below the government's reference price.
"Current stocks are sufficient, and prices at the producer level range from Rp52,000 to Rp53,000 (around US$3.17) per kilogram of body weight. This is lower than the reference price," he said in a statement on Sunday.
He noted that under National Food Agency Regulation Number 12 of 2024, the reference purchase price (HAP) for live cattle at the producer level is set between Rp56,000 and Rp58,000 per kilogram of body weight.
The deputy minister explained that price stability has been supported by the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, which provides market guarantees for livestock products and offers business certainty for farmers.

On that occasion, he also asked APPSI to play an active role as the government’s strategic partner in realizing food self-sufficiency, particularly for beef. He stressed the importance of swift reporting from the association whenever issues arise, including those related to production or management.
APPSI General Chairman Ahmad Muzani stated that the close ties between the association and the Ministry of Agriculture have provided tangible benefits for farmers. He pointed to various APPSI activities in the regions that have successfully attracted government attention, secured assistance, and improved farmers’ welfare through cattle competitions and other supporting programs.

Muzani also highlighted the vast potential for developing dairy cattle and poultry within the framework of the MBG program, which, according to him, provides guaranteed demand from off-takers while opening up promising business opportunities for local farmers.
