Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Eddy Soeparno asserted that the proposed revision of Law Number 17 of 2013 on Community Organizations (UU Ormas) aims to expedite the dissolution process for problematic community organizations.
"The point to revise the UU Ormas is to accelerate the liquidation process for the dissolution of these organizations," he noted at the parliamentary complex here on Monday.
Soeparno emphasized that the government holds the authority to disband community organizations disrupting public order.
"The issue of dissolving organizations has been addressed (in the law). Organizations that disturb public order can be dissolved," he stated.
Hence, he expressed support for the government's initiative to revise the Community Organization Law in response to rising perturbing actions by several community organizations in the country.
"I believe that it is within the government's authority, and if the government feels there is a need to strengthen the supervision of these organizations, then we will certainly support it," he remarked.

Soeparno welcomed the government's plan to revise the Community Organization Law, as the plan was conveyed by Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian.
"I welcome the home minister's statement, indicating that he is ready to evaluate the Community Organization Law to strengthen its aspects of supervision," he remarked.

On the other hand, he noted that revising the law might not be necessary if supervision and law enforcement against extortion by these organizations are carried out consistently.
"If law enforcement is conducted strictly and consistently, then legislative changes may not be necessary," he asserted.
