Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia and Thailand have agreed to cooperate in developing boxing through athlete training, trainer exchanges, and joint tournaments.
“Thailand has long been known as a prominent boxing powerhouse, both at the Asian and global levels. We hope that through this collaboration, Indonesia will take many notes and grow to produce international-level boxers,” Indonesian Boxing Association (PERBATI) president Ray Zulham said.
In a statement released in Jakarta on Thursday, he noted that the planned partnership between PERBATI and the Thailand Boxing Association (TBA) would stimulate the growth of both the amateur and professional boxing circuits in Indonesia.
He informed that the two boxing federations have agreed to set up a joint team tasked with formulating short- and long-term programs for advancing boxing in both countries.
“We hope that this cooperation will create more opportunities for initiatives that can directly improve the performance of Indonesian athletes,” he said.
He added that PERBATI and TBA will soon sign a memorandum of understanding, either in Jakarta or Bangkok, to formalize the collaboration, under which a variety of programs will be implemented gradually.

Furthermore, the two parties plan to engage in follow-up discussions on joint training activities for regional tournaments and trainer licensing initiatives.
Meanwhile, TBA Vice President Chaiwat Chotima welcomed the cooperation and underscored the importance of such collaboration among Southeast Asian nations to excel in the increasingly competitive world of sports.

“Indonesia has many talented young athletes with great potential to grow further. We are ready to share our experience and open access for them to train in Thailand to support Indonesia in improving its boxing quality,” he said.
