Penajam Paser Utara (ANTARA) - The Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) has signed cooperation pacts for nine projects that will be undertaken in the second phase of IKN development in Penajam Paser Utara and Kutai Kartanegara districts, East Kalimantan province.“The IKN is now entering the second phase of development,” acting deputy for facilities and infrastructures at the OIKN, Danis H. Sumadilaga, said in Sepaku, Penajam Paser Utara, on Saturday.

The nine new projects include seven road infrastructure projects and the planned development of sports areas and green open spaces as well as the Sepaku area. All other development work, covering judicial and legislative areas, installation of drinking water distribution lines, and other road networks, is in progress, he informed.

He said that the project to develop the Sepaku area is not an ordinary one because it is being carried out in a socially and economically active area. This is why the work contract took more than a year to formalize, he added.

The ongoing development in the Sepaku area has not merely entailed constructing infrastructure on vacant land, but has involved community participation. For instance, the design of the Sepaku market, a vital hub of economic activity, was chosen through a participatory community decision-making process, specifically via voting.

The market is being developed on village land. During construction, the market traders will be temporarily relocated, and upon completion of the project, they will return to their stalls.

“The development of sports areas and green open spaces such as glamping areas is developed into functional and educational public spaces,” Sumadilaga said.

The glamping areas will be upgraded to green open spaces that can be used by the community for education and recreation. They could even be used for research, considering their location in tropical forests that possess great potential for forestry learning and research.

The project for improving the quality of the 12.3-kilometer road is worth approximately Rp3.042 trillion (US$188 million), and the project for developing sports areas and green open spaces and the Sepaku area is valued at around Rp313.2 billion (US$19.35 million).

“The funds for the work package come from the 2025 state budget (APBN),” Sumadilaga said.
