Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has called for stronger collaboration among government officials, farmers, and other stakeholders to meet the national goal of achieving self-sufficiency in table sugar by 2026 and in all sugar types by 2028.
According to a statement from the Vice Presidential Secretariat, Gibran said the targets were set by President Prabowo Subianto.
"We all share responsibility for meeting these goals. So we ask for your support, ladies and gentlemen," he said during a dialogue with sugarcane farmers in Sleman, Yogyakarta, on Tuesday.
Gibran also praised farmers for beginning to adopt modern agricultural technologies, including the use of drones to improve crop yields. He observed a drone demonstration during his visit to the sugarcane fields.
"Mechanization is essential to increasing productivity. The use of drones is a very positive step," he told the farmers.

He encouraged them to actively seek government support when facing challenges in the field.
Gibran emphasized that the government is committed to helping farmers boost productivity and resolve key issues quickly.

"We are determined to find fast solutions — whether the issues relate to water, seeds, fertilizers, market prices, land, or partnerships. God willing, the government can handle all of this swiftly," he said.
During the visit, Gibran also distributed assistance to local farmers. He was accompanied by Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, Deputy State-Owned Enterprises Minister Aminuddin Ma’ruf, and Armed Forces (TNI) Commander General Agus Subiyanto, among others.
