Jakarta (ANTARA) - Digital transformation, including the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing by state-owned enterprises (SOEs), is a strategic step to boost innovation and economic growth, Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, said

“Digital transformation is not just about exchanging ideas, but also creating concrete and strategic steps to encourage technological innovation that has a direct impact on productivity and public services,” he added in a written statement received here on Thursday.

He informed that the government supports the adoption of new technologies such as AI, Big Data, and cloud computing by SOEs.

“AI supported by Big Data and the cloud will help SOEs improve strategic planning processes, risk mitigation, service security, and financial optimization,” he said.

However, he noted that national digital transformation is still facing several challenges.

According to data from the Oxford Government AI Readiness Index, Indonesia is still grappling with digital infrastructure gaps, weak data governance and security, and a lack of public-private collaboration.

“There are still gaps in the provision of equitable digital infrastructure. Data governance and security are also a shared responsibility. At the same time, stronger collaboration with the private sector is urgently needed to drive innovation,” he said.

Therefore, Patria called for synergy between the government, especially SOEs, and the private sector to accelerate the adoption of new technologies, including AI, in various public service sectors.

This would also involve ensuring interoperability between applications across ministries and agencies to create robust and integrated electronic services.

“The government continues to push for regulations that support data transparency, build digital infrastructure for the entire national AI ecosystem, and develop strategies for cross-sector AI adoption,” he said.

He made that statement at the CXO expert series forum for SOEs. He lauded the forum as a manifestation of concrete support for increasing the digital readiness of SOEs amid rapid technological disruption.
