Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - The joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team, on Wednesday, continued the search for 151 missing residents after a 5.6-M earthquake struck Cianjur, West Java, on Monday afternoon (November 21).
As many as 796 SAR personnel were deployed to 12 affected sub-districts in Cianjur to search for the missing residents, including collecting data on the assistance needs and distributing aid, Bandung's Head of the Search and Rescue Office, Jumaril, stated here on Wednesday.
"If the SAR Potential team finds a location point where search and rescue assistance is needed, it should inform about the coordinates to the Joint SAR Post," Jumaril remarked.
The office head noted that search efforts will be conducted by the SAR potential team and the team from the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas).
According to Jumaril, the SAR potential team had been deployed to the 12 sub-districts affected by the earthquake in order to gauge the assistance requirements in addition to searching for the missing victims.
Meanwhile, the Basarnas team will focus on conducting search and rescue efforts in Cugenang Village, Rawa Cina Village in Nagrak, Salakawung Village in Sarampat, and around the restaurant Warung Sate Sinta.
"During the evacuation, if a victim is found, then he or she will be transported to the Cianjur Regional Hospital using an ambulance," he noted.
SAR officers will also send assistance goods to the evacuees using helicopters.
"In addition to the search plan, today's special agenda is the logistics drop-off for evacuees in Talaga Village, Cugenang Sub-district, using Basarnas' BO-105 helicopter," Jumaril stated.
Furthermore, he noted that the earthquake in Cianjur had killed 268 people. Out that figure, 122 bodies had been identified.
Meanwhile, at least 1,083 people were injured while 58,362 residents in Cianjur were displaced. The earthquake also damaged thousands of residential structures and several public facilities buildings.
