Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - The Bali chapter of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) has expressed the hope that the holding of the U-20 World Cup in Indonesia will push up hotel room occupancy in Bali to 80 percent.

Kapten I Wayan Dipta Stadium, Gianyar, Bali, is one of the stadiums selected for hosting the championship. "Currently, with more than 13 thousand (international tourist) arrivals per day, the average occupancy in Bali is 63 percent, even though there are those that have reached 70–80 percent," Bali PHRI Deputy Head I Gusti Ngurah Rai Suryawijaya informed at the Bali Tourism Office here on Tuesday.

He said that Bali PHRI supports the holding of the U-20 World Cup in Bali because it will have a positive impact on hotel occupancy, especially if global football fans can visit the stadium directly Suryawijaya predicted that international-level football matches would attract many international tourists from Europe, followed by the United States and Australia.

He said that generally, European tourists tend to look for 3–5-star rated hotels, and long-duration events would allow visitors to stay for a long time. "We have appealed (to Bali PHRI members) there will be this event that needs to be anticipated, including the Cleanliness, Health, Safety, and Environment Sustainability (CHSE aspect) still needs to be readied," he added.

He noted that even though hotel prices have not fully recovered to pre-pandemic levels, there is a possibility that special rates will be offered during the implementation of international events, which will depend on the number of visitors.

The World Cup is scheduled to take place from May 20 to June 11, 2023. Besides Kapten I Wayan Dipta Stadium, five other stadiums have been prepared for the World Cup: Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (Jakarta), Si Jalak Harupat Stadium (Bandung, West Java), Manahan Stadium (Solo, Central Java), Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (Surabaya, East Java), and Jakabaring Stadium (Palembang, South Sumatra).
