Probolinggo (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD has guaranteed that the 2024 elections will take place according to the agreed schedule.
"As Menkopolhukam, I can assure you that the General Elections (Pemilu) and Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) will be held on February 14 and November (27) of 2024 respectively," the minister remarked during his visit to the Nurul Jadid Paiton Islamic Boarding School in Probolinggo District, East Java, Saturday.
As for the lawsuit filed by Prima Party, he affirmed that the case has been closed as the previous decision of the Central Jakarta District Court in favor of the party had been ruled out. With that being said, the 2024 Pemilu will take place as agreed.
"Let us make proper preparations for the elections and vote for your candidates," he added.
The minister further noted that as a democratic country, the change of power in Indonesia is conducted through Pemilu, as it serves as a deliberation forum where the candidates with the most votes are the victors.
"Hence, I encourage the people to use their voting right during the elections. Vote for trustful leaders, both in legislative and executive levels," the former Constitutional Court Chief Judge remarked.
On the occasion, the minister also highlighted corruption as a persistent scourge in the country. Despite a good trend in economic growth, the practice of corruption remains a thing. The duty of people of the nation is to develop the country by constantly putting pressure on such a practice, he emphasized.
Apart from giving speeches, the minister also performed the Eid al-Fitr prayers with the school's big family, alumni, students, and local communities.
