Banda Aceh, Aceh (ANTARA) - Indonesia's National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has said that the InaRISK personal application can help the public monitor threats or potential disaster risks in their surrounding area."Users can access information on disaster threats in their area with the application," a disaster analyst at the BNPB's Disaster Management System Directorate, Didik Kurniawan, said in Banda Aceh, on Wednesday.
He delivered the remarks while making a presentation during an information dissemination on disaster information technology such as InaRISK and the disaster history literacy portal, held at the UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh Auditorium.
According to Kurniawan, InaRISK can forecast potential disasters based on coordinates after users activate their GPS. Therefore, the application can provide information on disaster threats at a particular location.
"Users should activate their GPS and the application can detect their location along with potential disasters," he said.
However, he informed that the app does not track dynamic conditions in the field. For example, if a dam construction is underway, the potential for disaster is supposed to change in the app.
He informed that the application cannot show the impact of a disaster, but it can provide information on disaster potential.

He informed that the number of InaRISK users has currently crossed 60 thousand.
"It has been used by around 60 thousand users. We hope the application can help the public to learn the potential for disasters in their area," he said.
InaRISK personal is an Android and iOS app that shows the level of disaster threat as well as provides suggestions for mitigation before, during, and after a disaster. InaRISK is vital for the public to prepare themselves for facing disasters as well as report on prevention activities.
During the 2024 Eid al-Fitr homecoming season, BNPB also advised homecomers to utilize the InaRISK app to access information related to disaster risk and mitigation advice.
