Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), Lestari Moerdijat, has emphasized the importance of ensuring children's access to appropriate information, urging all stakeholders to support related initiatives.

“Efforts to develop the Children’s Friendly Information Center (PISA) to uphold children's right to appropriate information must be supported by all parties,” she said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Moerdijat explained that appropriate information refers to content that is positive, supports children's growth and development, and respects human dignity.

She noted that the National Library (Perpusnas) plays a strategic role in advancing the PISA initiative, which was launched by the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection. This role includes aligning various programs and activities to create child-friendly libraries across Indonesia.

Citing Perpusnas data, Moerdijat said that as of September 2023, Indonesia had 178,723 libraries spread throughout the country.

She stressed that Indonesia must leverage this existing potential to better fulfill children's right to information. At the same time, she acknowledged disparities in the distribution and quality of libraries nationwide, calling for prompt action to address these gaps.
