Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) will expand the beneficiaries of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program to include older adults, scavengers, street children, and all poor communities, aligning with President Prabowo Subianto's directive.BGN Deputy Head for Investigation and Public Communication Nanik Sudaryati Deyang said in a statement here on Friday that the policy is outlined in the Presidential Regulation Number 115 of 2025.

"He wants all poor people, people with disabilities, older adults, children who have dropped out of school, street children, child scavengers, all to become MBG beneficiaries," she remarked.

Apart from those groups, the MBG program is also expected to be expanded to teaching staff as well as cadres of Family Welfare Empowerment (PKK) movement and integrated health posts (posyandu).

The free meals program was launched on January 6, 2025, as one of the priority programs of President Prabowo, aimed at improving the nutritional status of children under five, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and schoolchildren up to the high school level.

With a target of reaching 82.9 million beneficiaries across Indonesia, the program is one of the largest programs implemented in the country.

President Prabowo Subianto, earlier in late November 2025, said that the program had provided more than 2 billion portions of meals to its beneficiaries, higher than the initial projection of 1.8 billion portions.

Meanwhile, BGN Head Dadan Hindayana stated that his agency is currently building 8,200 MBG kitchens in remote areas to ensure equitable distribution of the free meals.
