Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) announced that the Forest and Land Fire Desk and Task Force have officially disbanded as the forest and land fire situation is deemed under control."Since the condition is relatively safe, the Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs has decided to disband the Forest and Land Fire Desk and Task Force," BNPB Head Suharyanto said here on Wednesday.
Previously, forest and land fire handling was carried out by referring to Presidential Instruction Number 3 of 2020 and Decree of the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Number 29 of 2025. Under those regulations, the BNPB played a key role as the responsible party for the operations of the Forest and Land Fire Desk, from aerial firefighting to weather modification.
Suharyanto ensured that even though the task force is disbanded, the government continues to monitor preparedness and anticipation for forest and land fires.
He further said that, based on his meeting with Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago on Wednesday, the minister urged regional governments to enhance their alertness by referring to the previously implemented schemes.

The BNPB has warned of the potential threats in the future, including the El Niño phenomenon that is projected to occur again in 2027, thereby posing risks of an extreme dry season.
Based on the forest and land fire indication map of the Ministry of Forestry, from January to June 2025, around 8,594 hectares of land were burned, with over 80.15 percent of them being peatlands.
Of the total six prioritized provinces, West Kalimantan is the province that recorded the most number of incidents with a total burned area of 1,149 hectares.
