BNPB, Polri send five helicopters to help Jambi combat forest fires

Jambi (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) Headquarters deployed five helicopters to assist the Forest and Land Fire (Karhutla) Task Force in Jambi Province in combating forest and land fires."Five helicopters from BNPB and Polri Headquarters have been deployed to Jambi for patrols and aerial spraying of forest and land fires," said Bachyuni Deliansyah, Head of the Jambi Provincial Disaster Management Agency, in Jambi on Sunday.

He stated that the assistance consists of two water-bombing helicopters and two helicopters from BNPB. One helicopter from Polri Headquarters, while the other from BNPB, is currently en route to Jambi.

The five helicopters are on standby at Sultan Thaha Airport in Jambi, with their primary task being to conduct aerial patrols and monitoring to identify fire hotspots that are difficult to reach by land.

Currently, the peatland area in Gambut Jaya Village, Sungai Gelam Sub-district, Muaro Jambi District is severely burned.

In that area, approximately 250 hectares of land have burned. Firefighting efforts are currently being carried out by the Forest and Land Fire Task Force, comprising members of Manggala Agni, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Fire Awareness Community (MPA), and the surrounding community.

Jambi Regional Police Chief Inspector General Krisno H Siregar, while inspecting the fire in Gambut Jaya Village on Saturday (July 26), stated that the Jambi Regional Police are still investigating the cause of the fire.

Previously, the Jambi Regional Police had named two suspects in the case of the burning of the Production Forest (HP) area in Peninjauan Village, Muaro Sebo Sub-district, Batanghari District.
