Jakarta (ANTARA) - At least 817,742 people in Aceh remain displaced following the flash floods that hit the region two weeks ago, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has confirmed.BNPB’s Head of the Data, Information, and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said on Friday that current government data indicate 407 fatalities, while 31 people are still reported missing.
“Emergency response efforts are ongoing, including the construction of Bailey bridges in several affected areas to restore transportation access,” he said.
Muhari explained that severe damage to infrastructure—particularly bridges—has disrupted the distribution of logistics and access to shelters in Bireuen, Central Aceh, and surrounding districts. BNPB, together with personnel from the National Defense Force (TNI) and the Ministry of Public Works, is currently constructing Bailey bridges at three locations across Bireuen District.
The 30‑meter Teupin Reudeup Bridge has reached 77 percent completion, while the Teupin Mane Bridge is 85 percent complete, he noted.
Meanwhile, the Kutablang Bridge in Krueng Tikeum—which serves as the main route connecting Bireuen and Lhokseumawe—is progressing at 17.5 percent. Work on the Jeurata Bridge in Central Aceh, which connects Pidie and Takengon, is also ongoing. The bridge is considered vital for maintaining access to the highland areas.

Muhari emphasized the crucial role of these bridges, noting that each Bailey bridge is designed to support loads of up to 50 tonnes, enabling the transport of logistics and emergency supplies. During his visit to Aceh on Friday, President Prabowo Subianto said the government is doing everything possible to support emergency response operations.
He assured residents that assistance would continue until recovery is fully achieved.

The President also apologized for any shortcomings in the government’s response.
