Jakarta (ANTARA) - The old people evacuated to a school in Manggarai, South Jakarta, are in need of porridge and medicines after the devastating fire that ravaged the area on Tuesday (August 13) night.

"We need porridge for my mother, as she cannot eat rice," Cici, whose mother is 69 years old, stated here on Thursday.

The assistance so far provided to the displaced residents was only regular rice, and there was no porridge. Cici's mother suffers from diabetes and hypertension and is confined to bed.

"Hence, I bought old people biscuits and milk; if not, she cannot eat," she stated.

The medical team gave medicines to her mother, but her coughing continued, and she could not sleep. Meanwhile, RT02 neighborhood head, Sukirman, stated that the residents affected by the fire needed women's supplies and medicines. When contacted separately, Head of the South Jakarta Health Office, Yudi Dimyati, stated that his side had distributed diabetes and high blood pressure medicines to the residents.

"On the third and the following days (after the incident), we prepare regular medicines such as for diabetes mellitus and hypertension," Dimyati stated.

In addition, medicines are prepared to treat wounds and breathing difficulties, as well as analgesics and antibiotics for residents in need. The health office also opened two 24-hour service posts and three Mobile Health Centers to serve fire survivors in Manggarai.
