Jakarta (ANTARA) - Two Indonesian soldiers who were injured during an Israeli attack in Lebanon have recovered and returned to duty with their UNIFIL unit, Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Commander General Agus Subiyanto confirmed on Friday.

“Both are healthy; they have returned to their units. Both have rejoined their parent troops. They are doing well,” he said here.

The two TNI personnel were injured after a Merkava tank belonging to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) fired at an observation tower at the UNIFIL Headquarters in Naqoura, Lebanon, on October 10, 2024.

They sustained minor injuries to their legs, and their condition was stable. After being treated at a hospital, they returned to duty.

UNIFIL and Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi condemned the Israeli military attack, which threatened the safety of UN peacekeepers in Lebanon.

UNIFIL has warned that any attack deliberately aimed at peacekeeping troops violates UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

Meanwhile, Marsudi said that Indonesia will not be deterred by any form of provocation and Israeli military attack on UN peacekeepers in Lebanon.

Indonesia is so far the country that has sent the most soldiers to serve with UNIFIL in Lebanon.

More than one thousand TNI soldiers are currently attached to different UNIFIL units, including the Maritime Task Force (MTF), TNI Mechanized Battalion Task Force (INDOBATT), Force Headquarters Support Unit (FHQSU), and Indo Force Protection Company (FPC) Task Force.

They further include the TNI Civilian Military Coordination (CIMIC) Task Force, Military Community Outreach Unit (MCOU) Task Force, and Level 2 Hospital Task Force.

Most TNI soldiers who are serving with UNIFIL operate on land. The MTF carries out its duties at sea.

The Blue Line border area and several parts of southern Lebanon have been the target of Israeli airstrikes since early October this year. Israel claims that the attacks are directed at the Hezbollah group of Lebanon.
