Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government expressed optimism that Indonesia would not run out of energy sources in future on account of sufficient potential sources of clean electricity. Director General of New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, Dadan Kusdiana, stated that Indonesia's potential for renewable energy was five folds higher than the energy that would be utilized in 2060.
"If later somebody comments, for example: ‘in Europe, there has been an incident in which they had electricity problems because they were too focused on renewables’. Well, we won't (experience such thing) because we have almost all types of renewable energy," Kusdiana delivered the statement at the 2022 Renewable Energy Festival Spark here on Thursday.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry has projected that Indonesia's clean energy potential could reach 3,686 gigawatts, with solar energy potential being the largest, at 3,295 gigawatts; followed by hydrogen, at 95 gigawatts; bioenergy, 57 gigawatts; wind or water, at 155 gigawatts; geothermal, at 24 gigawatts; and ocean energy, at 60 gigawatts.
The government aims to install 587 megawatts of renewable energy plants by 2060, with the largest contribution coming from solar, water, and biomass, since they had huge potential and resources in the country.

"This potential, should be calculated, is five times greater than what we will use in 2060," he remarked. He explained that the government would not only focus on solar or wind energies but also utilize other energy sources, such as geothermal, which had the second-largest potential in the world after the United States.
Moreover, the government was pursuing the utilization of marine energy, as Indonesia was a maritime area. There were also bioenergy sources that would be fully supported as a means to promote national energy security and independence in the future.
