President Joko Widodo arrives in East Sumba for working visit

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and First Lady Iriana arrived at Umbu Mehang Kunda Airport, East Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara, at 9:20 a.m. local time, Thursday, after a 35-minute flight from Haji Hasan Aroeboesman Airport, Ende.

Upon his arrival at the airport, the president and entourage were greeted by East Sumba District Head Khristofel Praing, Regional Military (Kodim) Commander Lt Col Czi Aditya Triwirawan, and East Sumba Police Chief AKBP Fajar Widyadharma, according to a statement from the Presidential office here on Thursday.

They were also welcomed with traditional dances performed by local artists dressed in a woven cloth typical of East Sumba.

From the airport, the president and the entourage continued their journey to the sorghum crop processing plant. The president was scheduled to plant and witness the sorghum harvest.

Jokowi would later head to the Matawai Market to deliver some forms of social assistance, including Working Capital Assistance (BMK) and Cooking Oil Direct Cash Assistance (BLT) for participants of the Family Hope Program (PKH) and traders.

In the afternoon, President Jokowi and his entourage were scheduled to return to Jakarta aboard an RJ-85 aircraft via the Umbu Mehang Kunda Airport, according to the statement.

Members of the president's entourage comprised Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, East Nusa Tenggara Governor Viktor Laiskodat, Head of the Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono, Presidential Military Secretary M. Tonny Harjono, Commander of the Regional Military IX/Udayana Major General Sonny Aprianto, and Chief of the East Nusa Tenggara Police Inspector General Setyo Budiyanto.
