Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian women's singles badminton player Gregoria Mariska Tunjung failed to advance to the 2024 Paris Olympics finals on Sunday after losing to South Korea's An Se-young in the semi-finals.

The match lasted for an hour and two minutes, in which Gregoria overpowered her opponent in the first game. However, in the second game, An played more aggressively, unleashing several hard smashes and managing to trick Gregoria.

At the interval of the second game, Gregoria trailed An by two points. After the break, Gregoria's shots lost some of their sting, while An's returns became increasingly intense. The crucial third game started poorly for Gregoria, handing An the early advantage. In the end, Gregoria struggled to anticipate An's powerful smashes, making An the winner with a score of 21-16.

This defeat means the Indonesian badminton team will not win any gold medals at this year's Olympics after having secured golds at the previous two editions. Gregoria still has a chance to win the bronze medal, while An Se-young will face the winner of Monday's match between Spain's Carolina Marin and China's He Bingjiao in her quest for the gold medal.
