Jakarta (ANTARA) - The House of Representatives (DPR) has said that it will fully support the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) in implementing the Free Nutritious Meal program initiated by the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka government.

"Commission IX supports the programs and activities of the National Nutrition Agency," chair of the commission, Felly Estelita Runtuwene, said at the parliament complex here on Thursday.

The support was one of the important points discussed during the working meeting between Commission IX and the head of the National Nutrition Agency, Dadan Hindayana.

To support the implementation of the free meals program, Commission IX has provided several notes to the BGN.

Among other things, BGN has been asked to submit the details of the program later. The agency has also been asked to formulate indicators for measuring the success of the program, such as weight and height gain in children and relevant indicators for pregnant women.

"We have also asked BGN to submit budget details, including other possible sources of financing in 2025 after the agency's organizational structure and governance have been determined," Runtuwene informed.

Earlier, the deputy chair of Commission IX, Charles Honoris, conveyed his expectation that the free healthy meal program would support Indonesia's goal of becoming a developed country by 2045, as envisaged by the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.

"The new government can focus on improving the nutrition of Indonesian children to develop human resources so that we are ready to face Golden Indonesia 2045," he said.

The Free Nutritious Meals program will cover 82.9 million people, including toddlers, school students from kindergarten to high school levels, and pregnant and lactating women.

BGN has also decided to involve village-owned enterprises and co-operatives to supply food ingredients for the program.
