Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto congratulated Anthony Albanese via phone call following his re-election as Prime Minister of Australia.
During the phone conversation on Sunday afternoon, President Prabowo expressed hope that the Indonesia-Australia partnership would continue to strengthen in the future.
"President Prabowo Subianto personally conveyed his congratulations to Anthony Albanese on his successful re-election as the Prime Minister of Australia," Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said in a statement on Sunday.
The Cabinet Secretariat, through its official social media account, uploaded a photo of President Prabowo speaking with PM Albanese over the phone.
Albanese secured a second term after a landslide victory in Australia’s general elections held on Saturday (May 3) local time.

He is the first Australian prime minister to win a second consecutive three-year term in the past 21 years.
As a result, PM Albanese will continue to lead Australia for the next three years.
The Labor Party, led by Albanese, also secured a parliamentary majority by winning 87 out of 150 seats.

In his victory speech delivered at 10 p.m. local time on Saturday, PM Albanese said Australians had chosen to remain optimistic.
Australians have chosen to face global challenges the Australian way, looking after each other while building for the future, he stated.
President Prabowo and PM Albanese last met on the sidelines of the APEC Summit in Lima, Peru, on November 14, 2024 August 19-20, 2024, during Prabowo's visit to Australia.
During their meeting, the two leaders discussed several strategic issues concerning bilateral relations between Indonesia and Australia future cooperation.
