Banda Aceh, Aceh (ANTARA) - The Bener Meriah Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) in Aceh has closed Mount Burni Telong to mountaineers following the geological agency raising the alert status of the volcano.“The geological agency raised the alert status of Mt Burni Telong in Bener Meriah district from level one to level two or alert on Saturday (August 2, 2025),” the agency’s acting head, Safriadi, informed here on Monday.

The mountain, with an altitude of 2,624 meters above sea level, has been closed to climbers until further notice, he said, adding that the temporary closure is aimed at anticipating any unwanted incidents.

“Thus, the mountain is closed for safety reasons, as a distance of one or some kilometers from its crater is regarded as a danger zone. As usual, many mountaineers climb the mountain ahead of the Independence Day celebration on August 17,” he said.
