Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government conveyed its readiness to collaborate with various parties to support forest and land rehabilitation efforts covering 12 million hectares through a carbon economic value scheme, as informed by Deputy Minister of Forestry Rohmat Marzuki.He informed that Indonesia had signed several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to support carbon trading in the country at the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Brazil.
These include MoUs signed between the Ministry of Forestry, the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM), and the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA).
"This is in line with President Prabowo Subianto's directive to rehabilitate 12 million hectares of critical land in Indonesia. We will pursue this by building international partnerships for a carbon-credit scheme to support land and forest rehabilitation," he said at the Global Carbon Summit Indonesia 2025 on Wednesday.
Marzuki then highlighted the significant potential for nature-based solutions (NbS) in Indonesia's forestry sector, including carbon emissions reduction and sequestering carbon through afforestation, reforestation, and revegetation efforts.

Based on data from BloombergNEF, the potential carbon value of the forestry sector between 2024-2050 is estimated to be around 1.34 billion tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e).
This is followed by a potential for carbon trading in the blue carbon and clean energy sectors, Marzuki added.
The cooperation with various parties was taken by considering that efforts to rehabilitate forests and critical land require a significant budget. Funding from the government alone is not sufficient, he continued.

He pointed out that the involvement of local governments is also encouraged, given that much critical land falls under the category of other land use areas (APL), along with support from companies and community initiatives.
"Through the carbon credit scheme, we will strive to secure international funding to assist with forest and land rehabilitation in Indonesia," Marzuki remarked.
