Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) has issued Regulation No 4 of 2026 to regulate the assurance of halal compliance for foreign products entering the country."This serves as an assurance guideline for halal foreign products that enter, circulate, and are traded within Indonesian territory," BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan said in a statement released here on Saturday.Hasan explained that the regulation is designed to protect consumers by ensuring the halal status of imported goods while providing legal and operational clarity for enterprises.

"The key point is certainty. The public gains protection when choosing products, while businesses gain clarity regarding the fulfillment of halal requirements," he said.

He emphasized that consumer rights and business interests must go hand in hand. To streamline the procedure, Hasan assured that the new framework avoids excessive bureaucracy.

"The principle is to provide certainty without creating unnecessary administrative hurdles. Therefore, the assurance mechanism is clearly measurable and supported by an integrated electronic system," he added.

The new guidelines align with Indonesia's Halal Product Assurance Law, which mandates the phased enforcement of compulsory halal certification for all goods — including imports — starting in October 2026.

Hasan urged importers and inspection agencies to familiarize themselves with the new provisions ahead of the October deadline to ensure a smooth transition and a certain business climate.

"Ultimately, halal certainty provides added value to products and supports the development of the broader halal economic ecosystem," he said.
