Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara, (Antaranews NTB) - With all of its warehouses fully stocked, the state logistics agency Bulog of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) province is unable to accommodate imported rice that will arrive in October 2018.
NTB Bulog Regional Division Head Ramlan EU remarked here on Friday that the imported rice cannot be accommodated because all 16 complexes of warehouses on the islands of Lombok and Sumbawa in the province are fully filled with rice, sugar and cooking oil.
"Our warehouses with the capacity of 120 thousand tons are all filled and unable to accommodate imported rice, or some 2,500 tons of sugar," Ramlan said.
According to him, the West Nusa Tenggara regional division of Bulog has made a commitment with the NTB provincial government to prioritize the absorption of rice produced by the local farmers in the region.
Ramlan said the rice procurement target in 2018 is 150,000 tons. Of this amount, 110,000 tons have been realized.
Rice purchased from the farmers is stored in the West Nusa Tenggara Regional Bureau of Logistics in the City of Mataram, West Lombok and Central Lombok.
Ramlan also emphasized that the process of providing local farmers` production of rice is still going on so that the volume that will be stored in the warehouse will increase.
He also estimated that the procurement target of 150,000 tons would reach 130,000 tons by the end of 2018 so that stock security could reach 18 to 20 months.
Hence, Ramlan said he has coordinated with Jakarta, that the imported rice of 400,000 tons in October cannot be accommodated in West Nusa Tenggara. (*)
