Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) thwarted the circulation of 2.76 kilograms (kg) of heroin, 9.83 kg of crystal methamphetamine, and 114 kg of marijuana, with eight suspects being held.

"This is the result of cooperation and collaboration between the BNN and the TNI, National Police, Customs and Excise, Airport Authority, and ASDP," Deputy for Eradication of BNN, Inspector General I Wayan Sugiri, remarked in a press conference on Friday.

According to Sugiri, the pieces of evidence were seized in different cases. The heroin and crystal methamphetamine evidence came from an international network, while the marijuana came from Aceh and was being shipped to Java. Sugiri explained that the disclosure of this case was able to save 82,310 people from the potential for narcotics abuse.

"The disclosure of such narcotics smuggling is proof that narcotics are an organized global threat, so collaboration between agencies is needed to anticipate the entry of illegal goods," he emphasized.

In the first case, he explained that the joint team from the BNN and Customs and Excise arrested three suspects, with the initials ZM, SS, and AH, with 2.76 kilograms of heroin as evidence.

This case is a development of the previous case, where the BNN had managed to secure crystal methamphetamine from Laos that was controlled by a suspect, with the initials DA.

DA is suspected of being a recruiter of international narcotics couriers, Sugiri said.

"DA is currently still abroad and is on the wanted list (DPO)," he revealed.

In the second case, the BNN teamed up with the Sekayam Police to arrest two suspects, with the initials A and RR, for possession of 10 packages of crystal methamphetamine. The crystal methamphetamine was found by the border security at the Indonesia-Malaysia border in Sungai Tekam Village, West Kalimantan.

Meanwhile, the third case came to light due to the result of an investigation by the Banten Province BNN team that grew suspicious of a fully loaded truck. On conducting search, the Banten Province BNN found four sack packages containing 114 kilograms of marijuana.

Three perpetrators, with the initials TM, SC, and S, were arrested. According to Sugiri, the suspects were charged with Article 114 (2) Jo Article 111 (2) Jo Article 132 (1) sub Article 112 (2) Jo Article 132 (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, with a maximum sanction of death penalty or life imprisonment.
